Marks and Destruction

The work is an exploration of the gradual destruction of the human body. It is a feminist response to the art of Abstract Expressionist Lucca Fontana, whose work, although highly formalist depicts an idealized and eroticized depiction of the destruction of the female body. In my painting, I used an experimental technique of painting with lemon and burning out the marks over the fire to depict the marks of slow, gradual destruction of the body, not like that of the natural processes and cycles.
