Distorted Anatomy Lesson
This project started as an excuse to draw a lot of anatomy studies and learn to draw human figure better. However, after studying Belvedere Torso, a great mine of anatomical knowledge, used also my Michelangelo, I have done an ecoche model. Then I attempted to cast it in plaster, however the outcome was very distorted.
This outcome lead me to investigate the difference in the depiction of human body by the Academic standard- dignifying the idealized bodies, versus the depiction of deformed bodies in "freak shows".
In the end however, I did not want to operate on the shock factor, which made me go back a little but, and examine how the medium can distort the subject. In result, I crafted my own, 80x100 cm paper, onto which I drawn a study of Belvedere Torso.
